Lauren's sensory room and bathroom
Donation protected
In September 2013 our beautiful daughter Lauren attempted to take her own life, resulting in a severe brain injury. Since then we, as a family have been looking after her at home and have fought for everything we have to ensure Lauren can live her life to the fullest. There are no facilities in the community for Lauren to access such as sensory rooms, hydrotherapy pool, etc. As such facilities in Angus are for people with learning disabilities. We recently took Lauren on a short holiday to an accessible holiday cottage near Blackpool. Where Lauren had access to a bath and also a hottub. Lauren seemed to enjoy the hottub a lot and vocalised her enjoyment. We also noticed an improvement in her circulation. On returning, both myself and Rob thought about what we could get Lauren to replecate these reactions at home. We thought about a hottub, but the expense and practicality of having one at the house is not really a possibility. We then decided on the best option being a jacuzzi bath, which we have already purchased. We also need to strip and revamp the part of her bathroom which houses the old shower cubicle, which is now used for storage. And of course we need to purchase a tracking hoist to enable Lauren to get in and out of the bath.
