VicPol's secret gun law hit list
Victorian shooters need to know what changes to our gun laws Victoria Police they are after, and are trying to hide from us.
In March 2016, Victoria Police told the Herald Sun they were making "recommendations for firearm reform legislation" to the State Government.
This was MAJOR news to everyone, so the Combined Firearms Council of Victoria submitted Freedom-Of-Information requests to find out what these reform proposals were.
Victoria Police refused to provide copies to us for two reasons. First, they claimed the documents are "Cabinet-in-Confidence" and secondly that they are "working documents".
While we weren't successful in obtaining the documents, we know the 'recommendations' went on for five pages, so the list of recommendations is clearly signifcant.
That's when we hired a solicitor and barrister, and commenced legal action in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) in May.
Where we're currently at
The hearing date for our action is Monday 13th November, which is just around the corner.
We're serious about this - and so are our legal bills. While we have raised enough money to get this far, we need more to continue.
How you can help
Your donation will help us keep this fight going - not only to get the documents, but to make the point that firearm policy discussions are too important to happen 'behind closed doors'. All we're after is a fair forum, and a fair go!
Your donation will go directly to the CFCV's Fighting Fund to pay those bills.
Donated before?
If you donated to the VCAT fight earlier this year, then there is no need to donate any more – this is the same campaign.
If you donated to the Dunstan fight, then a around a third of this (the portion which has not been spent) will go to preparing a submission to the NSW Government on changes to its gun laws (so it can't happen again).
Think of it as insurance
If you're a shooter, then you will appreciate the importance of this fight.
You spend thousands of dollars each year in your sport, so if you don't spend anything to protect it, then here's your chance.
Please help if you can. It'll be the best thing you can do for your sport, your kids, and your shooting mates.
