Leslie Baxter's Medical Expenses

Donation protected

Hi!  Below is a picture of my sister Leslie, her husband Cameron, and some of their children.  (The picture is a bit old - she now has 8 children.  You read that correctly - 8 children.)  As you can see from this picture and the pictures below, Leslie is an awesome person.  She's a classy stay-at-home mom, and the perfect mix of fiesty and compassionate.  She's a perpetual optimist and a champion for the underdog.  But right now she is the underdog, and I'm hoping that each of you will help champion her cause.

On February 21, 2015, Leslie and Cameron took their 6 month old baby and started the 4-hour drive from Blackfoot, ID, to Salt Lake City, UT, to attend a friend's wedding reception.  The weather was bad, temperatures were freezing, and unbeknownst to them, black ice covered much of the freeway.  Around 2 hours later, just before Logan, UT, Cameron hit a patch of black ice at 70 mph, and the when the front tire caught the asphalt the suburban flipped and rolled several times.  The picture below shows the suburban.

Cameron was driving, and suffered several broken ribs from the impact of the steering wheel.  Leslie was in the passenger seat, and broke her neck and her left hand.  Miraculously, the baby was completely uninjured.  Below is a picture that was taken the next day:

You can see Leslie's optimistic spirit in the picture above.  Her face seems to say, "I just broke my neck, but at least it wasn't worse!"  The doctors were able to stabilize her neck without surgery, but she'll have to wear a brace for several months, and she had to undergo surgery on her hand.  A few days later Leslie was released from the hospital and returned home to some very worried and apprehensive children.

As you can imagine, the medical bills piled up, and Cameron's time off to attend to Leslie, their children, and himself, created a significant gap in their income. After insurance had paid their share, Leslie and Cameron got hit with an $18,000 medical bill, in addition to being several weeks without income. Cameron is already working, in spite of the pain, but when you hit a financial setback like this, it takes a long time to dig your way out.

My goal is to raise $25,000 to wipe out those medical bills and help Leslie get back to doing what she does best: raising 8 children.  Because children shouldn't have to worry about buying groceries or keeping the lights on, when they're already wondering if mommy will ever be able to pick them up again.  I hope you'll help.
