My best friend, Megan Collins, was in a very serious car accident on Monday June 26, 2017 while traveling to the beach. She was only a couple of hours away from her destination when she wrecked. She was then transported by helicopter to the closest hospital nearby. Once she got to the hospital, the doctors informed us that Megan fractured her back at the T9 vertebrae and her spinal cord has been completely severed at T8. The doctors did surgery and Megan came to ICU on the ventilator, where she was cooled for 48 hours to give her spinal cord the best possible chance. Doctors are telling us that there is very little chance that she will ever walk again, but that doesn’t stop up from hoping and praying! After the 48 hours of being sedated, she woke up and became very confused and agitated and ripped her chest tube out, (if you know Meg, this is no shock to any of us). Because of this, they had to reintubate her and sedate her. She will be this way for a few days, then they will slowly wake her up again. Megan is also suffering from a collapsed lung, collar bone fracture, multiple rib fractures, a neck strain, and pneumonia for now.
Since Meg was traveling to the beach, she is in a hospital several hours from home. Her parents are there with her, as well as several other loved ones. With both parents taking off work and being away from home, many people have asked me about a GoFundMe.
Megan is a recent graduate from East Tennessee State University and does not have health insurance at the moment. Everything donated will go directly to Regina, Megan’s mom, to help with medical bills and any extra expenses. ANYTHING and EVERYTHING helps. If you can't donate, please pass this along. Let’s do what we can here while Meg rests and fights off anything that comes her way there! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, in advance for anything donated.
Please keep Megan and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
