My PhD costs

I am a blind PhD student in the final year of my research at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. My research is on Ottoman reform in the late nineteenth century. It examines the influence of two British men on this process; their roles as naval reformers and commanders, their private communications between the Ottoman and British Governments, and finally their defence of the Ottoman Empire in print.

I am looking for support to pay tuition fees and my Turkish research assistant. The only income I have is from benefits, I am unable to work part-time to fund my studies as many students do because I am blind. Access to archives of the Ottoman Empire is essential to my studies, there is no Braille equivalent to Ottoman Turkish so I require a research assistant who locates and translates documents into English on my behalf. He has located a number of useful documents, which remain untranslated due to funding issues, these documents may hold the key to answering my dissertation questions.

I realise that everyone is having a tough financial time, however I am extremely grateful to anyone who is able to provide any financial assistance.
