Help those Electrifying Haiti!!

Hello, my name is Mike Grisham. I am a Lineman for HILCO Electric Cooperative in Itasca, Texas. Recently, I was provided the opportunity to travel to the country of Haiti and aid in a volunteer project to help build and construct power lines for the purpose of bringing reliable power to the people in the villages near Caracol, Haiti. Working side by side with the local apprentice linemen every day, throughout the heart of the local towns and villages and experiencing Haiti in such raw form, as well as interacting with the locals, and really seeing life through their eyes was a very unique and humbling experience that will no doubt last a lifetime!!! The men, women and children in these small towns & villages have long been without something you and I often take for granted - Electricity! Thanks to volunteer projects like the one that I was fortunate to be a part of, that is slowly changing. But building powerlines and maintaining them is no easy task! Over the past few years, men from the surrounding towns & villages have been eagerly learning the safety procedures and skills necessary to work on and maintain the powerlines which will provide sustainable electricity to thousands of families in Haiti. These men endure back breaking work, in often times less than favorable conditions, using marginal tools & equipment, digging & setting power poles by hand without any excuse or complaint for 10-12 hours each day, and they do it all for less money than what most of us spend on our lunch at some fast food restaurant!! These men are very proud of what they do and are appreciative of everything they have!! Most working in whatever pair of second hand sneakers they could afford, or boots that are far beyond worn and may not fit properly at all! Many of these men are thankful just to be able to provide their families with 1 meal a day consisting of mostly rice & beans and possibly a very small portion of whatever protein is available. These men deserve to have the right tools and equipment for the jobs they perform each and every day! They deserve to have a good pair of boots that fit properly!! Their children deserve to have good clothes for school and school supplies or even a nice soccer ball to play with their friends! I'd like to ask for your help in providing these men with all of this and more!
