Linden Public Library

The Linden Iowa Public Library is a small, rural library that serves a community of approximately 225 people. The facilities are old and the books are out of date, but the volunteers who keep it going refuse to give up! Just like most teachers, they pay for items out of their own pockets, make sure the kids have a safe place to read or just hang out, and ensure there are always snacks available. We host summer and after school reading programs, tutor children and help with their homework, host free lunches, and more!
Our long-term goal is to build a new library. This very small building also serves as City Hall and where city council meetings are held, as well as a community center. This is where people drop by to not only check out books, but also catch up on the latest community news, drop off baked goods and surplus vegetables from their garden to share, play a board game, or do homework.
The building is not handicap accessible, and to get to the restroom you have to walk through the fire department garage, where the fire trucks and all equipment is stored. It's not safe, and the restroom is not handicap accessible either.
If we could raise enough funds, we would build a new building that was handicap accessible and would have a separate meeting room and office space for the city council and a large, bright, colorful open space full of books and computers that the entire community could enjoy. Perhaps a little coffee shop in the corner with baked goods and a soda fountain! And, of course, nice restrooms that are up to code.
