Lloyds Basic School Jamaica
My name is Lola and I grew up in Lloyds, a small community in the hills of Jamaica. I lived with my grandmother who operated the first and only Post Office in the community. My grandmother has been deceased for over 20 years and left the property for my sister, Olive and myself. Olive and I have been living in the USA for over 30 years and, until recently, the property has been sitting there not being used for any purpose.
Recently, a young lady in the community, Ms. Lesha Cuthbert requested to lease the property. She said the Jamaican Government would help her to build a Basic School. My sister and I were more than happy to accept the proposal and decided to donate the rental back to the school. If my grandmother was still alive, I know that she would be very happy with our decision.
On the first day of cleaning up of the property in Jamaica, the entire community came out and helped to clear the bushes in preparation for the construction of the new school that their children could attend.
It was hard when I saw the demolition of my childhood home which was also the first Post Office in the Lloyds community. Later pictures, as the construction progressed, helped to affirm that we had made the right decision in leasing the property to build the school.
Christmas is fast approaching and I am trying to put together enough funds to purchase school supplies for the 29 children eagerly awaiting their new school to open.
We have set a goal of $5,000 and budgeted for the purchase of tablets, books, crayons, pens, pencils and a Christmas day meal for the kids.
All of the proceeds will go directly to the school for the young children of my hometown community to learn and prosper. The kids, parents, teachers, my sister and I will be very grateful for your help.
