Loaf's Vet Bills
Donation protected
Our beloved cranky princess, Loaf, has been suffering from chronic renal failure since July. Back when she was diagnosed she was in end stage kidney failure, and would have died without intervention. We hospitalized her for three days on constant IV fluids, which brought her back from the brink of death. Not sure how long she would have with us, the vet told us her living a full year would be optimistic....
Since then we've utilized several treatments which have prolonged her life and eased her suffering enough that most days she seems like she's feeling pretty good! These treatments have racked up a lot of debt for my husband and I, and while every penny is worth it to make sure her quality of life is as good as it can be, we have reached a dead end financially.
Here's an idea of her treatments:
She gets daily subcutaneous fluids (IV bag, lines, needles), a phosphorous binder powder in her food, Pepcid, Cerenia (an anti-nausea medication), Mirtazapine (an appetite stimulant), fiber supplements and Miralax (kidney cats are prone to constipation, which can turn quite serious if not careful), Prednisilone (a steroid we use to treat her asthma), potassium supplements, NutriCal (a nutrient supplement for animals that don't eat enough or are sick), Darbepoetin (a bone marrow stimulant to treat anemia, 1ml of which cost around $400 at it's cheapest, though it lasts a long time), vitamin B12 injections, and CBD oil for overall comfort and appetite.
In addition to all her medications and treatments, kidney cats are finicky eaters. We pay a small fortune in wet cat food and treats of every variety to keep her interested and eating. She also gets regular blood tests to monitor her progress and catch anything new we need to treat.
We have had 7 relatively incident free, happy months with her since her diagnosis. But today Loaf was diagnosed with a UTI. She's in pain, and I'm scared we won't have enough to keep treating her. With how quickly she is declining, I'm not sure she will live to see spring. But I want to make whatever time she has left as comfortable as possible.
I've payed thousands of dollars out of pocket to treat her, and I'm nearly at my credit limit. Art is my only source of income, and my husband is disabled and doesn't have an income. I'm at my wits end, and my financial end. We need help. Anything you can donate would be helpful, and sharing this would be helpful too. It will all go directly to her expenses and bills we've racked up.
Please help me keep my beloved girl comfortable. Thank you all. <3
