Local Democracy Fund--Legal

The government of Ontario tabled Bill 5, the Better Local Government Act, 2018 on July 30th, 2018. The Bill effectively repeals the city of Toronto's powers regarding it's own election, and, as an aside, aims to reduce the number of wards in the city. We take no issue with the government's call for a more efficient city government. However, this Bill throws into chaos and confusion, and renders ambiguous, the rules, regulations, and ward boundaries in the 2018 Toronto election.
A legal challenge has been launched, and a notice of application was filed today at the Superior Court of Justice for the Toronto region. We expect the province to mount a vigorous defence against our efforts to ensure the rule of law prevails, democratic rights respected, and consultative conventions vis a vis the province and municipalities. We need your assistance with a defence fund to ensure we can at least match their efforts, so we kindly ask you to assist our efforts with a small gesture. Every little bit helps. Let us preserve our democracy. Thank you, and God Bless.
