Lorraine Harris seemed to be doing everything right. As a healthy, active, professional, single woman, she was feeling her best. A recent colonoscopy, scheduled because of some bleeding, revealed that while all these other indications of health were great, Lorraine was, indeed very sick with rectal cancer.
Her world literally turned upside down. With no immediate family in the area, Lorraine did not have daily support from them and had to depend on the kindness of her community which she is extremely grateful for. However, dealing with the illness not only calls for 24/7 personal care, but trying to run her profession and earn a living, all has become very difficult. With no longer a full time income, the ability to handle ever increasing bills only adds to the difficulty...and stress.
Lorraine has had 2 rounds of chemo which gave some positive results, but also side effects that greatly concerned her. As a self-employed practitioner of Chinese Medicine herself, she knows there are alternative treatments out there. Her decision making not only involves trying to determine best outcomes for her health, but the cost of treatment, whether within the insurance-covered realm or outside it, has huge financial consequence. Lorraine does not have a partner making a living while she takes care of herself.
This fund would be to help her pay for out of pocket expenses, whether resulting from traditional, insurance-covered treatment or alternative treatments. She is already in debt over $12,000 in just a couple of months. Her continued treatment may involve chemo-radiation combo for 5 weeks, with accumulating side effects, eventual surgery with a recuperative period with no activity for some weeks, and then chemo for weeks after she has healed. In all, at least 6 months additional time, with the coming new year out-of-pocket expenses. During all this time she must strengthen her immune system with supplements and herbal formulas, acupuncture, and more. The costs to her energy and her finances can really take a toll.
Lorraine has received the love and support of her community in many ways, which has been a great help. The costs of cancer are tremendous and she hopes this fund will not burden anyone with a donation.
