Our story with Louise begins 3 years ago....
Everyday on her way to work, a vet tech at Black Horse Animal Hospital drove past an emaciated black lab tied to a small concrete pad. After seeing the dog left out in a historic rain storm, enough was enough. The vet tech contacted the owner informing him that he could relinquish the dog or the police would be called. Louise was made available for adoption through a post on Facebook. That was how Louise came to be a part of our small famliy.
When my wife Jenn and I first brought Louise into our home, she was very skinny but also very happy. We immediately fell in love. Three and a half years later, she's no longer skinny, but still very happy and very loved.
However, her time on the concrete pad did have long term effects. She had an untreated ACL tear that healed improperly, causing stiffness in her right knee and inflammation in her left hip from compensating for the knee. These injuries cause her to move slowly and limp after getting up from a nap. We treated her as best we could, knowing that arthritis could be a problem down the road. On Friday October 14th while at the dog park, the ACL tore again.
The surgery to fix her ACL has been quoted at $1600, and a follow up surgery to fix the hip will cost an additional $900. Unfortunately, this is happening a little over a month away from the birth of our first child. With all the costs of childbirth, and Jenn's reduced pay during her maternity leave, money is getting tight.
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated and go towards getting Louise back to playing ball by next spring.
Thank You,
Jeremy West
