Anyone who knows Malaku knows he's never been one to take life for granted. He's always demonstrated that he was put here to make a difference and many of us have witnessed him jump hurdle after hurdle in doing so. He's one of the one's who's been given multiple gifts to draw from, and it safe to say he's been a good steward over them, always putting in the work to add to our collective consciousness in some creative way.
But now he's facing his biggest hurdle yet ... and though he's also known to be headstrong, this one he can't clear alone.
On January 10th, while doing a set of jumping jacks at a fitness bootcamp he regularly attends, something went terribly wrong for Malaku. He suddenly lost consciousness as a result of what he later learned was an embolic stroke. Nobody could've predicted that, especially himself. In minutes his life changed course from a routine day to an immediate future of unknowns.
It was extremely fortunate and likely a product of divine intervention, however, that the potentially deadly event happened just minutes away from one of the best embolic stroke centers around. It only took minutes for him to be rushed there and into emergency surgery for an embolectomy, and the clot that caused the stroke was successfully removed. The proximity of the medical center and the quick action of those around him prevented its escalation to his brain being permanently damaged or, even worse, it taking his life.
The resulting injury to his brain did cause paralysis on the left side of his body, causing him to now have to relearn certain movements and skills, but he's up for the fight; that's who he is. It's gonna be tough, though, because not only does he have to dig deep within himself to meet the physical demands of rehabilitation, but he has to also meet the financial ones.
In order to achieve that 100% recovery - which he's been told is possible, he'll need the collective care over a specified period from a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, a chiropractor, an herbalist, an acupuncturist and a neurologist, which will be expensive. His healthcare will cover some of it, but as healthcare goes, there are some gaps that need to be filled. That's what this Go Fund Me is all about, making sure he has what he needs to get through this without the added strain of making the financial ends meet.
So, if you feel compelled to help our extraordinary and otherwise productive friend, whom we love, quickly get back to giving us things to make us think, grow and love, dig deep and make a contribution to this very worthy campaign ... like he's always felt about his life, he will not take it for granted.
