Girls Running Club
Donation protected
The Girls Running Club was started by teachers to encourage girls to maintain positive self-image, confidence, and empower them to live a healthy lifestyle. On June 3rd, the club will be running the Susan G. Komen 5K Race for the Cure.
The ultimate goal of this club is to empower young girls of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds to love themselves, build each other up, identify healthy lifestyles and relationships, and develop a strong sense of self-confidence. Coaches are responsible for educating these young, impressionable girls about the negative and misleading expectations set for women in society and addressing the images and gender roles they see and hear in the media and everyday life.
The 4th and 5th grade girls in the club attend an inner city school located in Seattle, Washington. This school has a high population of students who are homeless or in transitional housing, so providing after school extra-curricular activities is essential to their success as students and members of the community. Given that the majority of the students’ families are under financial strain, the PTA would love to alleviate the burden of the costs associated with this club. The money raised will cover the race registration fees, a club t-shirt, appropriate work out clothing (including running shoes), snacks for energy, and transportation to and from the race on race day.
The club would be extremely grateful for any donations you might be able to provide. Understanding that not everyone has the means to donate, it is still greatly appreciated if you sharing the link to the fundraising page so as to spread the word and get the girls ready for race day!
