Hi! I’m Keawe. I am 6 and I am in Kindergarten. I am shy but once you get to know me you’ll see that I am really nice and love talking story. My favorite characters are Ninja Turtles and Iron Man and I wanna meet Mickey Mouse. I love to make pretend and love pretending I am flying.
On my way home from school (in February), my head really hurt and I felt sleepy. I woke up in the hospital. My mommy said I had a seizure. After a really long time in the hospital (one week) and all kind of pokes, tubes and test we found out I have a monster in my brain called Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD).
The monster is really weird (Rare, 1 in about 18,000) and happens to boys more than girls. My brain will slowly stop working until I can’t make my body move (vegetative state). The doctors cannot make me better (NO CURE). The way for me to feel better is gone because the monster was big like Godzilla when I had a seizure on the bus. So I don’t get to grow and be like my daddy (death usually occurs within 1 to 10 years after the onset of symptoms).
The doctors here (in Hawai’i) couldn’t help me because the medicine couldn’t scare away my monster to make me better and there aren’t a lot of little boys like me.
Please help my mommy and daddy feel a little better and put a smile on their face by helping me raise money to get the things I need (to improve my quality of life).
