World History Teachers Adventure

Donation protected
Hello,

Today is the day I put my plan into action before time passes me by and I become history, just "dust in the wind."

It has been my dream to be a teacher for many years and this goal was accomplished in 2010 when I graduated from Purdue University. Might I add, this was a big accomplishment as I was the first in the family to earn a degree.

I had not always wanted to teach but the "bug" bit me and I just couldn't turn away. I am now in my second year teaching World History, Economics, Advanced Placement Economics, and coaching football. I can truly say that it is AWESOME working with the youth of this great planet.

Many years back as I was studying world history, in college, I began to feel an itch. This itch was to view the sites in history we were learning so much about. So that one day I could pass this on to my students, instead of simply reading it from a text book. To actually touch, smell, and see in person the Colosseum, to step foot on the beachs of Normandy, to walk through the gates of Auschwitz, visit the port city of Venice, to be awe struck by the Sistine Chapel, and to grasp the size and beauty of the Parthenon. And these are only a few of the places we studied.

Today is the day YOU help me scratch that itch inside. Today is the day I ask you to help me fulfill a life long dream. If I could do this on my own I would, however teaching is a profession in which passion drives the person not money. Let me see the sites, smell the aromas, and feel the history I teach everyday.

So where would your donation go? First and foremost, travel expenses to and from Europe. Airfare and train tickets alone will eat up a majority of our donations. It turns out traveling all over Europe happens to be VERY expensive! The rest will be used for sleeping, taxi cabs, food, a VERY large SD Card for pictures and video to show my classes, and miscellaneous expenses. Any amount will go an incredibly long way and would help to fulfill my dream before life gets to hectic.

I leave you with a simply quote:

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Nelson Mandela

Thank you for taking the time to help a beginning teacher on his journey through life and education.
