Encinitas Residents vs. Streetscape
Donation protected
The Encinitas Residents Coalition is a volunteer group of citizens who have mounted a legal challenge to the City's ill-conceived plan for the North Coast Highway 101 Leucadia Streetscape Project.
The Leucadia Streetscape Project is bad for local residents and beach goers alike, as lane reductions on the historic Coast Highway will make traffic congestion worse, and will cause increased delays for emergency responders. The City opted for this plan over an Environmentally Superior Alternative that would maintain the existing four-lane configuration. The Environmental Impact Report for the Project failed to study the impact of cut-through traffic onto neighboring residential streets, and failed to study its impacts on air quality, greenhouse gas emissions and noise.
The City Council has chosen pomp over public health, public safety and overall quality of life for Encinitas Residents, and now they want to put us in debt for $30 million to pay for a project that is not in our best interests.
We told them this was a bad plan - we went to City Council meetings, wrote letters, provided public input - but they didn't to listen to us, the Residents. The City left us no choice but to file a lawsuit to protect our community, and to enforce our rights under our City's Local Coastal Program, General Plan and the California Environmental Quality Act.
We have secured legal counsel and need help funding this cause. Funds generated will be used to pay for our legal fees and associated costs. We cannot do this without the financial help of our neighbors and friends.
Support for the Coalition is a way to voice our collective opposition to the Leucadia Streetscape Project and to challenge the City to come up with a better plan. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.
Please join us. Thank you.
