In Memory of Michael Namey
Donation protected
On Monday September 21, 2015, my UCF peer, Michael Namey, experienced sudden cardiac arrest. As one of his first responders, I did everything I had ever been trained to do in an attempt to bring him back. Unfortunately, all efforts failed.
An 18 year old freshman lost his life all but too soon due to SCA. A condition that kills nine in every ten people on the field. Michael left behind an amazing family and a grieving community.
But I made a promise on my Facebook post to somehow, someway, make Michaels death meaningful and that's exactly what I plan on doing.
Already, Michael's story has reached people all across the globe from South Africa to Australia and everywhere here in the US. It's time we finally bring to light the importance of being CPR and AED trained, but not just to have a "certification" but to one day be able to save a life; to save a family from grieving. I cannot stress enough that every single second counts. Seconds can mean the difference between life and death.
This GoFundMe account has been made in effort to spread the awareness needed but most importantly to remove any finanical burden from the Namey family. No family, I repeat no family, should ever have to expierence the loss of a loved one at such a young age. That is why I call on the global community to help in this effort. Help us change the way SCA kills and to help eradicate those satistics.
On October 16th, the pledges from UCF farternity, Theta Chi, will unite all of Greek life and the UCF and Orlando community to come together one last time to remember our fellow Knight. This vigil will be open to the public to both celebrate Michaels' life and to instill that CPR/AED awareness.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank every single person who has helped in this effort. Together we can change the world - This is Michaels story and it doesn't end with his death - let's write the ending it deserves.
-Manny
