Mac Carbon Sinks

Donation protected
The Immaculata High School (MAC) Eco Club has established a student led cooperative called CO2OPERATION. The primary purpose is to provide youth a space to expose the facts about man-made carbon (CO2) emissions. The secondary, and more important, purpose is to provide opportunity for people to be part of local and global solutions.

Our first event, "The Carbon Sinks Project", will take place on May 23rd, 2018. Throughout the day, we will be hosting activities and presentations to show the work we have done and raise awareness about multiple environmental problems our world is facing today.  The Carbon Sinks Project initiative is a play-on-words. A carbon sink is anything that removes carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. The Amazon rainforest and the Pacific ocean are perfect examples of carbon sinks. Of course, so are planters made out of old throw-away sinks found on the side of the road. We have been busy building planters out of sinks, using completely recycled materials to make our own contribution to the removal of CO2 from the atmosphere. We are eager to show off all of our hard work on May 23rd.

Our project has multiple purposes. Each sink has a carbon focus uniquely designed to absorb carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, highlight a critical issue related to climate change and provide you a way to make a difference in your community, or in the world. Each sink also has a funding focus designed to represent a local or global solution:
- Local: Send a deserving youth (or youths), that may not have the financial means, to take part in an environment camp this summer.
- Local: Provide an Ottawa family (or families) in need with locally grown organic vegetables for the summer.
- Global: Provide a girl (or girls) in Africa with an education for at least one year.

You can take part by sponsoring a sink. Each sink has a different “personality” and the funds collected from their sponsorships will go towards funding the goals above. You can view every sink and their funding purpose on our website: http://www.co2operation.ca . If you want your donation to go to a specific sink, leave a comment below and we will make sure your donation goes towards that specific sink's funding.

We thank you in advance for helping our environmentally-friendly initiative and for helping make Ottawa a greener city!

Stay Green,
