Meet my 12 year old nephew, Matthew Viray. On March 31, 2017, a tumor was found on his parietal lobe and diagnosed with a very aggressive brain cancer called Glioblastoma Multiforme.
On April 4, the massive tumor that was causing his double vision was removed. He went through one cycle of chemo and radiation. His repeat MRI in July showed two new tumors. He then started a clinical trial at LA Children's Hospital.
All this time we were very hopeful. He has had minor deficits such as weak arms, legs, double vision, hair loss, and headaches but thankfully no deficits remained.
Last Thursday, his arms got stiff and he was admitted to Rady Children's Hospital where they did another MRI.
This one showed that he now has 4 tumors scattered throughout, pressing on his brain. At this point, the doctors said they have done all they could. This gives us a very limited amount of time to spend with him. The news has been devastating for our family and it still is! We don't want to lose him and wish we could keep him here forever.
We are all very grateful for the love, prayers and emotional support we have been given and continue to be given. However, as with terminal illness comes financial strain. My brother has utilized all of his financial resources with medical bills, second opinions, travel to/from San Diego to LA and fulfilling Matthew's bucket list as well as meeting the everyday expenses for his family.
My goal is to raise money as soon as possible so that Matthew can complete his bucket list and help make his remaining time as comfortable as possible before his next journey begins.
