PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:
The Town of Bernice Council voted to not purchase service flags for the War Memorial in town. They felt that $438 to purchase all the flags would be too much of an expense that they could not afford. They would only provide the American and Oklahoman flags. So, the War Memorial will have all of its other poles bare. That is the support this this town shows for active duty service members and veterans.
The flags that will not be flown are the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, Air National Guard and the POW/MIA flags. Please let that sink in.
The VFW will be putting together a fundraising campaign to raise the funds to properly take care of the Memorial to ensure our active duty military and veterans are properly honored and remembered.
Mayor Brad Campbell and Council Member Clinton Brewster did not support the measure because it did not include funding for all of the flags like it should have. They stood up for our military and our veterans.
Delaware County VFW Post 2592 wholeheartedly does not support this move and calls on fellow veterans to let the members of this council who voted for this measure know they, as a city body, should stand up and support our military and veterans.
