Hey friends!
A lot of really big turning points are around the corner for me... graduation, my board exam for occupational therapy, and the inevitable expiration of my green card. My green card expires this upcoming March, which is the same month as my board exams. So here comes my dilemma: as a current grad student, I can't afford to application fee for my citizenship. I can't get a job to pay for my citizenship if I don't sit for my boards, and I can't take my boards unless I either renew my green card, or become a citizen. Or stay in the country legally for that matter...
As fun as it has been being your friendly local permanent resident alien, the truth is I love this country, and I want to stay. I want to work here and continue my life here. I could renew my green card, but let's face it: I've lived here since 1992, and it's about time I become a citizen. I just need a little help to get me there.
The application processing time is around 6 months, which brings us to March. The same month my green card expires. The same month as the OT certification exam. The cost of $680 covers the $595 application fee, and the $85 biometrics processing fee. If you know me, you know I hate to ask for help, but I've realized that I need help to make this happen.
Whatever you can afford, I appreciate so much. I definitely understand what it means to count your pennies. So whether its a penny, a whole dollar, or ten, it will go a long way to helping me stay in the country and hopefully make a difference some day as an OT. Even if all you can do is to share this page, it means the world to me!
