Champion of Fate, LLC, is a small business based out of Hampton, Virginia, started by Richard Beck. Our team is comprised of a few local veterans, artists, and family members. We enjoy all aspects of history and fantasy and the very theme for Champion of Fate and our products revolves around the joining of Historical fact and drink with the imagery and vision of humanity’s myths, monsters, and heroes.
We want to take the next step in our business, moving our operation from a garage start-up of less than 50 gallons a year into the full-time manufacturing, bottling and labelling of mead. Mead is a honey wine, like what the Norse Vikings of old used to drink. We want to introduce this ancient and amazing drink of the gods to the modern drinker, and carry our product to bars and restaurants and events. We want to take our business on the road and cater directly to historical communities all over the United States.
We need to pay for alcohol licensing, bonding, inspections, bottles, locally-grown organic flavor ingredients (such as molasses, sassafras, berries, just to name a few), and a website. But most of all, funds we receive will help us to obtain our number one ingredient: locally harvested honey.
The sooner we can achieve our minimum goal, the sooner we can sell to our growing base of interested friends and associates. We are specifically hoping that in six months our seasonal brewing schedule will be in full swing. However, without a license to sell alcohol, and the associated wine bonding, we cannot brew more than 100 gallons for personal use at a time. If we obtain the full allotment of funds before the year is out then we will push everything to our license fees and our website will be able to start taking orders and selling what we already have in stock. Otherwise, we are stuck with 100 gallons of mead we love to drink, but have to drink by ourselves.
Like our ancestors, we want our mead to be shared for celebration and remembering. We value the land, our family, and our history. Mead-making is a naturally environmentally friendly brewing process, and the waste products can be used as natural fertilizer. The family behind our product has been involved with beekeeping for generations, and now we are getting into the business of alcohol. With a love of the legends where great heroes enjoyed powerful beverages, we would like to provide that same feeling to all potential customers.
Personally, as the founder and brew master of Champion of Fate I have been looking forward to creating a business since I was a kid, only recently have I truly learned to love crafting and sharing wine. After a stressful term of service in the U.S. military, I want my hobby to be able to pay for itself with enough left over that I can share what I love. The Beck family for generations was a regular brewing family in the south where my father grew up. He learned from his father who was a beekeeper and woodsman. I learned from them, as well as my mother’s father, a Malcolm who has also been a brewer and outdoorsman. This is a family legacy, and I am trying to keep it alive and take advantage of a shift in our culture that accepts and promotes small business and small micro-breweries. I would love financial assistance, my father would be shocked at it, my grandfathers would be proud of it, and our family would have a very real example of how you can go from military service and stress that can nearly destroy you; to content, happy, and able to share your joy with the rest of the world.

Donations of $1000 or greater will receive a thank-you-very-much letter, a sample pack of all four meads we have in stock for sale, as well as 2 sample bottles of our Holiday blends of your choice, two BOGO coupons, and a Champion of Fate t-shirt. This offer may also be altered for a specific type of our mead upon request.
