Mapuche Aboriginal exchange

Donation protected
Mapuche Aboriginal Struggles for Indigenous Land exchange program: please sponsor Adnyamathanha woman Leslie Coulthard to participate in this historic exchange with the Mapuche people.

In Feburary 2017, the first phase of the Mapuche Aboriginal Struggles for Indigenous Land (MASIL) Exchange will take place, in which Australian Aboriginal activists will travel with indigenous representatives from Aotearoa/NZ, Bolivia and Canada, to meet with and be hosted by the Mapuche community of Temukuikui in the south of Chile, for two weeks of sharing, discussion, inspiration, building solidarity and cultural exchange.  The second phase of the exchange, at this stage planned for 2018, will see Mapuche representatives hosted by Aboriginal communities in Australia.

The project aims to initiate and drive a cultural and historic exchange between indigenous peoples in order to develop a holistic interchange and provide a complete picture of daily life experience in indigenous peoples’ culture including: history, culture, language, relationship with the land, education, ecology, religion, relationships with civil society and social movements.

The goals of the MASIL Project are:
• To establish face to face contact and dialogue and build links between Indigenous communities protecting their lands.
• To document all the work that is carried out and to produce a documentary of approximately 60 minutes duration, for distribution in Australia and internationally.

$2800 per person is needed to participate - $2200 for return airfares to Chile and $600 for domestic transport and other expenses within Chile.

The MASIL collective has allocated $1400 towards an Aboriginal participant from South Australia, so we are seeking donations to make up the remaining $1400 to enable Leslie Coutlhard, an Adnyamathanha woman living in Copley, northern South Australia, to attend. Leslie is committed to protecting her lands and saving the earth from environmental destruction and is a committee member of the Australian Nuclear Free Alliance.
