Mara's Recovery
Donation protected
On June 26th, at approximately 1900 hours a group of friends and coworkers from were hiking in the Tongass National Forest outside of Ketchikan, Alaska. Upon reaching the summit of Dude Mountain Mara Lorch was scrambling down off the peak when she lost her footing and fell. She took tragic slide over a cliff before tumbling nearly 150 feet before being stopped. She received multiple head wounds and a spinal wound, as well as several abrasions on her legs and torso. With the quick thinking of both her friends and several passerby's she was initially treated and remained conscious and calm while Search and Rescue was dispatched. Thanks to the help of everyone present, the KVRS and local EMS, she was quickly life flighted off the mountain and admitted to PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center and treated for her injuries. She is stable and in the process of recovering.
This is Mara's first summer working as a seasonal trail guide in Ketchikan. She is a young and lighthearted girl from Montana who loves nature and the outdoors. Her fellow staff all love her company and never forget to mention how much better the world would be with more people like her.
We all hope for her safe and speedy recovery. Most of all, we all want to be here for her in any way. We are hoping to raise money to help her and her family cover the cost of her medical and insurance bills and ease the burden for them so they can focus on comforting Mara in her time of need.
We all know that Mara would do anything to help her friends or any stranger she comes across. We hope to see her bright smiling face again soon and appreciate all the help from friends, family, coworkers, and strangers. Please share her story and help Mara get back up on her feet.
