Marching with Marv for AEDs
Donation protected
After having a heart attack and being saved by an AED Marv would like to raise money to get AEDs into the patrol cars of the Oconto County Officers. Our starting goal is to be able to purchase two of them but ideally we would love to get one into every patrol car!
Here’s a bit of his story: On the morning of Mary 17th Marv was on his way into work down in Green Bay, WI. Every time I ever rode with him got off in Abrams to get a sweet tea from McDonald’s, which he pointed out he was probably doing that morning. At the stop sign we are believing he had his first heart attack. Carla (icu nurse) saw him slowly begin to roll forward and thinking he was cutting her off she started honking her horn at him, like any of us would do. When he hit the embankment she knew something was wrong so she called 911. Marv rolled down the embankment, across two lanes of traffic, seconds after a semi went passed and finally slammed into the wire rails. A few other people stopped to help, two of which ran over to stop the Jeep because his foot was on the gas and a third, Carmen, the angel who saved dad’s life. Carmen also called 911 and then ran over to the Jeep, when she realized dad was unresponsive and not breathing they pulled him from his Jeep and she started CPR along with a state trooper who had arrived. Carmen said it felt like forever until the officer from Oconto County arrived with his AED that he had just received two weeks prior! When I told dad they shocked him, he cracked his typical joke and asked if he got to push the button and that they could’ve at least put his finger on the button. If you know dad, he’s asked to push the button every time he needed to have his heart shocked. When Carmen left the scene she said his heart was beating and he was breathing again. Dad was brought to one hospital and later transferred to St. Vincent. While at St. Vincent he had a second heart attack and was immediately brought to the cath lab to have a stent placed. The Dr who performed the operation said his heart looked very healthy and there wasn’t much damage.
God played a huge role in this day! Carla and Carmen were able to answer so many questions that we had about what happened that morning. Carmen had picked up a shift at the hospital that she wouldn’t normally work and that’s why she was where she was at. Carla was on her way into work as well. If this would’ve happened just one hour later, dad would’ve been driving a tour bus full of kids on his way to six flags.
On behalf of my whole family, I want to thank you all for your prayers and well wishes you have been sending for Dad. He has healed incredibly fast and we are so happy he is still here with us today!
The person behind the gofundme is Amanda, Marv’s daughter! The money we raise will be used to purchase AEDs for the Oconto County Officers.
