Marine Science Educational Outreach

Help us to educate the Scientists of the Future!

In January 2019, 2700 elementary school students from the upstate of SC will attend an exciting STEAM outreach program providing education about the marine environment, promoting environmental custodianship and inspiring careers in science and the performing arts.

Students will be bussed to the Pickens Performing Arts Center in Liberty SC where they will see an engaging and thought provoking musical theatrical production of "Something Very Fishy". Immediately following the production, children will rotate  through a fully interactive 10-station science and performing arts exhibition!

Led by 'tour guides' representing more than 10 careers in science and the performing arts, students will rotate through the exhibition where they will take a virtual reality dive, take a behind the scenes tour of the stage, try their hand at coral transplanting, see audio and lighting technicians at work, test water acidification, and  visit the 'marine park vetrinary hospital' where they can hold, identify and interact with hundreds of live marine invertebrates and more.

Many students are from Title One schools and live far from the ocean. The cost of taking  a field trip to the ocean is virtually financially impossible for the majority of these students, their families and the schools they attend.

The money raised will be used to establish exhibition stations, including the procurement of marine creatures (from a sustainable and approved source) and wall to wall murals of marine environments (beach, mangroves, coral reef, underwater science laboratory) allowing students to connect with marine environment without having to leave SC!

Your donations will be immensely appreciated by the children attending the program, their schools who struggle to send them on field trips due to lack of government funding, their families who cannot afford expensive multiple day field trips to the coast and the staff and many volunteers who are passionate about bringing the program to life!

The world's oceans are critical to the future of our planet and our children are the future. Please help us create a better tomorrow!
