Medical Funds

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I have kidney failure which puts me on dialysis three times a week. I’m waiting for the doctors to OK me for a kidney transplant. My sister has been tested and has agreed to be my donor. After one receives a new kidney, the medications can cost anywhere from $3000 to $5,000 a month, something that my current financial situation won’t allow me to afford, so while I wait for the doctors’ OK, I am trying to raise money now. Medicare will pick up a good portion of this tab for meds per month however most Transplant doctors recommend that we as patients save that amount because it may take Medicare after the procedure to kick in for the cost of the meds. In trying to save up, I have fallen behind on other necessities – rent being the most important. Being on disability doesn’t allow me much of a cushion for other things.

I have worked my entire adult and at age 42, my health began to fail. I was diagnosed with diabetes and I found out that I had been born without a complete heart – akin to Pete Marovich Syndrome. Due to just those two conditions being undiagnosed for so long, I recently had a partial amputation of my left foot due to infection that has further hampered my abilities.

If anyone helps me here the money would first off go to catch up my rent. I am one month behind and dying paying later fees. I would also pay off some of my medical bills. I don't have a car or any credit cards. I am also not carrying any student debt or anything extravagant. All I have are my utilities, rent and medical – necessities.

Since I'm currently waiting to be put on the list I have time to gather the funds needed however rent is due now. I am paying last month’s rent one month late every month so the fees are taking away from my ability to pay off other things and save money, so as soon as possible isn't quick enough.

I have never been above asking for help because I understand that people need help from time to time, and when I have been able, I have helped others. Family members and a few friends have helped me in the past and I am ever so grateful for that help. But I can’t keep going to them. Loans are out of the question because it would only mean me having to pay them back which I can’ afford. I realize I can no longer do this, so asking for your help means this would go directly to me in a saving account set aside for my kidney as well as to catch up on my rent. My gratitude would go beyond compare. Again, I thank you for taking the time to read my story, and my prayer is that you will be able to help me. God bless you, and thank you.
