Hi Everyone,

I hope you can take the time to read this whole message.

This is Mark Miller, and he’s my Uncle. When I was little, my Uncle Mark has always been like Superman to me- he still is.

But sometimes, bad things can happen to heroes too.

This past August, Uncle Mark was diagnosed with stage four liver cancer. The cancer is in the bile ducts of his liver, and has spread since. On August 18th, he began to experience an increase of discomfort and he knew that something was not right. His brother and friend decided to take him to the ER. Once admitted, the doctors had a CT scan as well as an MRI ordered. They found multiple large masses on his liver.

About three weeks following Uncle Mark’s diagnosis, and after battling with insurance, he was able to begin chemotherapy. He completed two chemo treatments. Unfortunately, his body was becoming weaker and weaker- and he was then rushed to the ER because he contracted Sepsis, which is a life-threatening infection of the blood. Luckily, he was able to fight that battle, and the Sepsis was unsuccessful at taking his life—which is usually the outcome for people who contract the deadly infection.

Unfortunately, he has stayed in the hospital since he went in to be treated for Sepsis, which was on October 10th. Uncle Mark’s cancer has gotten worse, and his liver is getting weaker. He has also been struggling with edema, which is an accumulation of fluid within the body.

Uncle Mark will be leaving the hospital, hopefully in the beginning of next week (11/28)- where an in home hospice care will come to his house.

Uncle Mark is in desperate need of financial support to pay his bills and medical expenses. Since he will be going home next week—this type of hospice care, known as palliative care, does not cover the expense for a personal home aid- which Uncle Mark needs.

My Uncle Mark has always been filled with compassion and kindness towards others, including his beloved dogs. When I was a little girl, I always remembered feeling so proud that he was my Uncle. All of my friends would always come over when he was visiting so they could play with him. There was just something about him that was infectious- he brought out the best in everyone around him. When it comes to his family, he always loved to make everyone laugh, and to entertain them with his music. I will always treasure the memories that I have of all of us at family gatherings, and him playing Frank Sinatra on the guitar. The family loved it—especially his mom (Baba) and Aunt Sant. Never in a million years, did I think that something so terrible could happen to someone so wonderful.

It breaks my heart to be writing this message to you all. I know that Uncle Mark loves every one of you so much. With all of that being said, I am asking you all for help. I am certain that each person reading this message knows that Mark would move mountains to help those he loves. And now I'm asking all of you to help him. He needs us.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
