Matt Curtis had an accident
Donation protected
UPDATE: by Sheryl Curtis. Matt had surgery in Burlington on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. His surgery was supposed to take 2 1/2 hours and it took 5 hours. The damage was worse than expected. He has lost 10% of the bone in his ankle joint. His recovery is going to be very long. We thank you all for your donations. Please continue to share the page.
A good friend of ours, Matt Curtis, had a bad accident the weekend before July 4, 2018. Matt was up on a ladder at the peak of the garage (2 stories up) putting up a bat house and the ladder slid out from under him, sliding down the side of the garage. Matt fell (almost two full stories) and his right leg got hung up in the ladder breaking both bones in his lower right leg and shattering his ankle into several pieces.
Matt has a long road ahead of him for his recovery. After being in the hospital for several days he was discharged with an appointment to go to Burlington, VT. Matt and Sheryl, his wife, went to Burlington on July 12, 2018 and the plan is for Matt to have surgery on his ankle by placing 3 metal plates and a bunch of screws in to repair all the broken pieces to put his ankle back together.
Matt has been told that it is going to be at least 3 months before he is able to put any weight on his ankle, not sure yet if he is going to have to do any rehab or physical therapy.
At this point Matt and Sheryl, his wife, are taking things one day at a time. Sheryl is limited on her ability to work due to Matt needing someone around to help with his day to day needs until he is further along in his recovery.
Both Matt and Sheryl are very giving people, Matt is a fireman and Sheryl is in the Auxillary for West Potsdam Fire Department. Matt and Sheryl have helped us with moving and anything that we need, it is our turn to help them.
Matt and Sheryl are going to need several things during Matt's recovery, friends and family have helped by building a handicap ramp, stacking wood, and lending of medical equipment (crutches, walker, etc) but there are the pending medical bills after insurance and large deductibles and not to mention the loss of pay that is weighing heavily on the family. If you are able to help it would be greatly appreciated, just sharing and getting the word out would also be a big help. Thank you for taking the time to read.
