At 7:54PM on November 7, 2018, 2 days before his 29th birthday, Matt received a call that no one wants to receive: he had blood cancer and he needed to go the Emergency Room immediately.

In the weeks leading up to the call, Matt had noticed his energy level had dropped and that he was bruising more easily. He finally decided to visit a doctor when he noticed a rash developing on his legs. At his appointment, his doctor was concerned enough with his symptoms to send him to the hospital the same day for bloodwork. Less than 4 hours after completing bloodwork, he received the call, dropped everything and rushed to the hospital. Around 4AM on November 8, Matt was admitted to Wilmot Cancer Center where he underwent extensive testing to determine a diagnosis. He received his first round of Chemotherapy on his 29th birthday, November 9, 2018.

On November 13th, Matt’s diagnosis was confirmed: He has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-Cell), an extremely rare diagnosis for his age. He is currently at Wilmot Cancer Center undergoing intensive 29-day inpatient chemotherapy treatment. Over the next 3.5 years he faces multiple rounds of chemotherapy, blood and platelet transfusions, bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, testing, and a possible bone marrow transplant down the road.

Anyone who knows Matt know he lights up a room. His laugh and smile are infections, he is passionate about what matters most to him, he is a loyal friend, son, brother, husband, and grandson, and is without a doubt a fighter (and *maybe* even a little stubborn).

This is our chance to give back.

While Matt and his family don’t know exactly what the financial burden will be given his diagnosis, they do know there will be numerous costs associated with his new normal: transportation, nursing care, therapy, home accommodations, as well as things that have not even been considered yet.

Many people have asked how they can help, so this GoFundMe was created for people to contribute in any way they feel comfortable. If you aren’t in a position to donate, they simply ask for your prayers and to share Matt’s story so that he can potentially help someone who may be in a similar position.

Any additional funds raised through this fundraiser will be donated to the National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Matt and his family are thankful for the incredible team at Wilmot Cancer Center for their expertise and for providing Matt with an unparalleled level of care as he fights this. They are also thrilled he was offered an opportunity to participate in a clinical trial that will give him access to a team of experts around the country.

Finally, Matt would especially like to thank his incredible family and friends for the outpouring of love and support he continues to receive. He could not get through this with without you and truly appreciates every single one of you for your kindness.
