Maverick's Legacy
Donation protected
On 30th August 2015, Norfolk's only Clydesdale, Maverick was injured in an horrific accident where he severed his hind leg. His vet bills are almost at £15000 (Jan 16). I'm raising money to continue to fight for his life and save this beautiful horse.
It is believed that Maverick was chased into an electric fence by a loose dog seen in the area on the day his accident happened.
Maverick's initial injury was severe. The wound went around his entire hind leg just up from his fetlock joint. The wound was bone deep and 2 inches wide at the front, severing his tendon, and down to the tendon sheath at the back.
In order to save his life, Maverick underwent surgery on two separate occasions. This was followed by 3 months of bandaging, changed weekly.
The wound was healing well, but following a trip during a bandage change, the wound ruptured in early December and has set back the healing by 3 months, effectively putting us back to square one. Maverick underwent another round of surgery and is now back in a supported bandaged for the foreseeable future.
Every bandage change costs £250.
The current cost of his recovery to date (Jan 16) is nearing £15000. He was insured for £5000.
We don't want to lose Maverick and are asking for donations to enable us to continue to care for him until he is healed.
Thank you for your support.
Maverick facts:
Maverick is 21 months old (Jan 16)
He currently stands at 16.3hh
Maverick is a Clydesdale.
Clydesdale's are a rare breed and fall into the amber category of endangered species.
Maverick is the only Clydesdale in Norfolk
Prior to his accident Maverick was a show horse, regularly winning classes and local and county level.
I have purposely not included photos of his wound in this description as many people find them highly distressing to see. If you'd like to see what Maverick is dealing with please contact me and I will happily send you the photos.
Every penny we raise will go directly into Maverick's care. If we raise more funds than are needed to heal Maverick we will donate the remaining money to a charity we will set up in his name which will support other owners fighting similar battles to save lives.
