The luckiest dog to get shot

Meka came into my life in 2010, when I rescued her from a lifetime of being called Sugar. She has been the best sidekick I could have asked for over the past 8 years.
On Saturday January 13, 2018 while walking on a designated hiking trail outside of Hinton, Alberta, a hunter mistook her for a wolf. He shot her with a .22 caliber bullet 30m ahead of me and my friends.
Meka is a 38lb, white/grey husky, with blue eyes, curled tail, and was wearing a hunter orange collar.
The bullet went through her front right leg, then passed through her rear left leg. Fortunately for Meka, the bone damage in her front leg has potential to repair itself without invasive surgery. Surgery will be re-evaluated at the end of January. However, we have been left with the vet bills because this individual shot my dog and is not taking finanical responsibility for doing so.
My hope with this story, is that hunters, dog owners, and the general public will be better informed, and that it might prevent someone else from making the same mistake.
