Melinda Newman's Brain Cancer Fight

Donation protected
“Live in such a way that those who know you but do not know God will come to know God because they know you.”

This saying is posted on Melinda’s refrigerator and has been her motto her entire life.  We do not fully understand God’s ways, but we know that this is the path HE has laid out for Melinda.  She and her family strongly believe that God is using her and her battle with cancer to show his love to others.

Only days after Melinda’s birthday, her husband was rushing her to the emergency room as she was having difficulty speaking and tingling in her arm.  Stage IV Astrocytoma tumor - Brain Cancer - was the last diagnoses expected.

As she underwent surgery to remove the golf ball size tumor, Melinda was surrounded by her husband and two kids, as well as, a host of other family and friends.  Her doctor said not many patients have such a strong personal faith accompanied by a strong family of faith supporting her. The power of prayer has been evident

She is currently scheduled to receive radiation and chemotherapy 5 days a week for the next 6-8 weeks in Austin.  Throughout the entire process, she has not lost her faith in God and has been positive and strong, but she needs your help to make this recovery easier for her and her family.  Thank you for any financial assistance you feel led to give and for all the amazing positive thoughts and prayers that have poured over her and her family.  We will continue to update everyone as she continues her journey of beating cancer.

We are praying along with so many other prayer warriors that even though this will be a long battle, Melinda will fight the good fight with God’s strength and His healing hands to overcome this terrible disease called cancer.

The upcoming battle will require a great deal of patience, time, and unfortunately a lot of money due to the surgery, chemotherapy/radiation, transportation costs, and rehabilitation required.

Any donation, large or small, will be appreciated greatly ❤️

Please please share this page as much as possible ! Thank you all so very much !!!!

Feeling blessed, but extremely overwhelmed. My sister went to the hospital for slurred speech and other issues, they found a golf ball size tumor on her brain. Tomorrow from 11-3 she will be having surgery. We are praying for it not to be cancer and fast healing. The picture is one the my son, Parker, painted for her...he must have seen a butterfly since it seems to be incomplete, but she still loved it like any Aunt would.

Melinda came out of surgery around 10pm last night and the surgeon felt really good about her recovery. He feels confident that he got most of the tumor out. We will not know for sure until the biopsy gets back, but the tumor was aggressive which likely indicates brain cancer. She is responding well in recovery, she is talking, laughing, and even moving a bit.  :)

She looks great, her halo of stars to cover her scars.  :)

She is already up and walking with the help of her son, Brian.

But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
Matthew 19:26 KJV

If you are reading this, let us first thank you for your prayers and ask that you continue to pray for us and especially my sweet wife, Melinda. When I took her to the emergency room almost a week ago cancer was not even a thought that entered my mind.

It is now Saturday, August 4th, Melinda has had major brain surgery and has been diagnosed with a grade IV astrocytoma cancer.

She should be able to go home in the next few days. The plan is to give her a week or two to heal from the brain surgery then start radiation and chemo treatment. The treatment will be everyday Monday through Friday for the next six to eight weeks.

The doctors are confident that this is a more common cancer they have seen many times before. The recommended treatment has a very high success rate. So with that and a specialized eating plan. We expect her to be back to normal in no time. Praise the Lord for this news.

Many people have asked what they can do to help. First I encourage you to stop now and go hug your spouse, kids, family, etc. you never know what life will throw at you. Secondly, continue to pray daily. We know God is with us. We don't fully understand the why, but trust God has great plans for us.

We have been blessed to have so many people offer to help with meals, unfortunately Melinda and everyone in the house will be on special medical diets that require us to measure foods and ingredients. If you want to help, we would appreciate gift cards for gas, natural grocers, or Amazon as we begin to travel from Temple to Austin everyday for 6 to 8 weeks of chemo and radiation.

Again, Thank everyone so much for all the prays and support.

My beautiful sister, strong only days after major surgery!!!

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)

Melinda has been home for almost a week. It is amazing to see how well she is doing. She is still a bit worried about being around people and germs. I think this is because of what one of the nurses said to her about the incision on her head and being extra careful. Those that know her well, know that much of her life was work. She struggles with not thinking about all the things that need to be done for the start of school. She loves Rummy Z. We try to play a few rounds with her each day to keep her mind off of work. She also wants to cook for us. So we are letting her do as much as she can to focus her mind on other task. Please keep Melinda and us in your prayers. We hope to find out Tuesday much more about what the next future weeks for us will look like.

High school friends reunited by God to help fight cancer!

“He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names. Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.” Psalm 147:4-5

We serve an amazing God. I can not express how many times God has blessed Melinda over the past few weeks and today he continued his blessings on her. Melinda started her Chemo pill last night. Everything seems to have gone well with the pill. Today, we saw the oncologist. He said she appears to be doing well after the blood clot and surgery and reduced some of the medications she is taking. We then went over to start the radiation treatment.

I believe God sends us the right people when we need them. When we got to treatment we were sitting in the lobby and to our surprise, Shannon, came out and set down next to Melinda. Shannon and Melinda graduated together from Robinson. As it turns out, Shannon will be one of the main technicians doing Melinda’s treatments. Melinda was nervous, but after talking with Shannon she said it helped to calm her nerves. All Melinda could say after we left is "Isn’t God Amazing." To have a classmate giving Melinda her treatments; I have to agree: "God is Amazing."

Thank you all for your prayers. Please keep them coming. I have no doubts that God is listening and blessing Melinda as result of them all.

The epitome of strength and faith!

Exodus 15:2 The Lord is my strength and my song; he has given me victory. This is my God, and I will praise him— my father’s God, and I will exalt him!

Today, will be day 7 of 33 for Melinda's Radiation treatments. She is a little bit tired and her sleep cycle is a little off but overall she is doing great.   My sister looks so beautiful and full of life, even through all the medical challenges she has been through in the last month!

We can't say thank you enough for all the gifts and prayers everyone has given. God is Good All the Time.
