Memorial Library - Citizen Activism

Tax deductible
In 1978 Doris Aiken founded the first anti drunk driving citizen activism non profit called "Remove Intoxicated Drivers" in Schenetady , N.Y.  RID was able to change laws to prevent plea bargaining out of alcohol charges and increase penalties resulting in reduced deaths on the highways from drunken driving in New York state. From that time on,  Doris and Bill Aiken gave conferences and went on talk shows to educate the public about ways citizens  could take action to reduce drunken driving in their communities. Currently, RID has chapters in 25 states and continues to help victims turn grief into action.
Doris Aiken passed away this year and we now want to take the VHS tapes from conferences and events to make a library of citizen activism that anyone could access.  We need to transfer those records to digital format and  edit them into documentary DVDs.
Doris Aiken was a visionary political activist who was successful in creating many ways to fight drunken driving. She initiated court watching, victim impact panels, safety tree projects and lobbying local government for better outcomes.
Please help us share her inspirational ideas with the wider public. The problem of drunken driving has not gone away and these ideas and tactics are still relevant and needed.
