Messick Family Urgent Home Rebuild
Donation protected
1/20/15 Update: Due to the age and recent damages to our house we will need to tear it down and rebuild. Though this is a devastating development it will be better in the long run. So, we are now raising funds for the building materials needed to rebuild our house. If you are will to donate materials we will gladly accept that as well. Just send a comment through this campaign and I'll send your contact information to the appropriate person. Again, I can't thank everyone enough for all the love and support we've received during this trying and stressful time.
God bless,
Lisa
Hi,
My name is Lisa Messick and I am trying to raise money or supply and trade donations for repairs to a house that my daughters and I will need to move into in about 60-90 days. We lost my husband Randy, on April 16, 2015 as a result of complications while under chemotherapy. Though he was being treated for cancer, his death was unexpected. The girls and I have gone through several major changes since losing Randy. My oldest, Hannah, graduated from high school and she began her freshman year at East Carolina University. My middle daughter, Sarah, began her senior year of high school and has since been accepted to two of her three choices of colleges (still waiting to hear from the third). My youngest, Rebekah, is back in a tradition school setting after being homeschooled for the past two years. We have since dealt with the "firsts" since his his death. His birthday, the fair (his favorite thing in the Fall), Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. Though they were tough days, we muddled through.
The most recent issue we are dealing with is that we are being forced to move. Luckily I still own our "starter" home from where we lived after we got married twenty years ago. The problem we are facing is that Randy, whose heart was too big for his own good, allowed a former helper's father to move in while he was going through a divorce. After Randy died, I contacted the "helper" to give him notice that his father would have to move out since the girls and I would probably have to move back to the house. This person did not move out. I had to have him evicted in November only to find out that he had reconciled with his wife. The problem with this is that she has a mental condition and she is a hoarder. A hoarder of anything and everything. This event made two local news channels since the NC Hazmat Unit was called out because she was also hoarding animals (11 cats, a 20 lb. rabbit, and at one time 5 dogs) So, they allowed a water leak to damage the roof, ceiling, and floor in the kitchen and bathroom. I now have to make all these repairs myself so the girls and I can move into the house. On the day of the eviction I received foreclosure papers on our current house. I'm expecting to have to be out in 60-90 days. Since Randy had battled cancer before (5 years) the second diagnosis, he was ineligible for life insurance. So, I have no spare money for this project.
I am blessed enough to have been able to go back to work. I began working in July for a company in Morrisville. But, with my limited income and the expense that comes with children I am struggling with how I'm going to make these repairs. I can't afford to hire a contractor. That is why I'm coming to GoFundMe. I need funds for the materials to make these necessary repairs or if anyone would volunteer their time and materials.
The house will be cleaned out on January 16th, and we'll be able to better assess the damage. From what we can tell the water damage is more isolated to the kitchen and bathroom. Although the whole house will been to be painted since their teenagers felt the need to write on all the walls in Sharpie pen. And, there aren't any kitchen cabinets or sink in the kitchen. The bathroom fixtures also need replacing. The above dollar figure is only a guess of what is possibly needed to make these repairs. I have attached the links to the two newstorys regarding this situation so that you'll know I am on the up and up.
