Michael Owens AML Fund
Donation protected
Our dearest Michael Owens was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) on Wednesday, 4 April 2018 without any previous signs of illness. He was a caring and generous soul as we all have been touched by him. Not only was Michael shocked by his diagnoses, those around him were shaken by the rapidness and severity of his illness. Unfortunately, Michael lost his battle at age 23 at 10:16pm on Monday, 9 April 2018.
Acute Myeloid Leukaemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. AML is not a single disease. It is the name given to a group of leukaemias that develop in the myeloid cell line in the bone marrow. Myeloid cells are red blood cells, platelets and all white blood cells excluding lymphocytes. Each year in Australia around 900 people are diagnosed with AML. Overall AML is a rare disease, accounting for 0.8% of all cancers diagnosed, at a rate of 3.7 per 100,000 of population.
The Owens family and Rosie would like to utilise GoFundMe.com to honour Michael's tragic experience and more importantly to support AML research to help the future generation. The donations will be given to the Leukaemia Foundation of Australia, specifically to the Acute Myeloid Leukaemia research department.
