Michael (Struggle street, SBS)

In short, we're trying to raise funds to purchase Michael ( as seen on SBS's Struggle Street) a guitar and amp.

Struggle Street is a documentry which aired on SBS and features Australians from diverse backgrounds facing a range of challenges, from unemployment to addiction and lack of housing.

During the first episode of the six-part documentary series , viewers watched on as the Michael prepared for his mother’s funeral and were given a heartbreaking look into his life as he sat on the floor of his squalid accommodation, with tears running down his face.  The former truckie is sobbing because he’s running late to his mother’s funeral, and he’s terrified of seeing his family - who have described him as a “junkie dog.”

Michael, who has battled addictions and mental health problems his entire adult life and after two years living on the streets, is now in transitional housing in Melbourne’s inner-west.

The 44-year-old explained that his life went off the rails after suffering years of bullying at school (“I just wanted friends”), which prompted him to turn to heroin at 19.

He’s off the “hard stuff” now, but still uses methadone.

“What a sh**ty f**king life. For f**k’s sake. You gotta say to yourself, how did it get like this?” he asked on camera.
As expected, Struggle Street season two made for tough viewing. You can still view Struggle Street on SBS on demand;

If you watched the final episode, you would have seen Michael finally purchase a guitar and amp, only to sell it off a week later to pay for his dogs vet bills.

He's a good person that's been down on his luck for a long time and we're hoping to change that for once. Any donations would help work towards the purchase of a guitar and amp and anything over the budget will go towards the care of his dogs and food vouchers.

*Please note; Michael has no knowledge of this. I've organised this with his friend, so we can present it to him as a suprise.

Also, Michael is a talented guitar player and will be looking for people to jam with in his local area of Seddon, Vic in Melbourne's inner west. Please get in contact in you're interested.

Thank-you
