Microbiota Transplant for Adults with Autism

Tax deductible
Great news!  We have successfully raised the funding needed to complete our study of microbiota transplant for adults with autism!

Many, many thanks to the hundreds of donors, including many families, Facebook groups, and Foundations who have donated!

We are now launching a GoFundMe campaign for a similar study for children with autism - you can visit it at
https://www.gofundme.com/microbiota-transplant-for-children-with-asd

Again, many, many thanks to all the donors who have helped raise over $200,000 for this important research!

Sincerely,
Prof. James Adams and Prof. Rosy Krajmalnik-Brown

Imagine moving from a diagnosis of “severe” autism to no longer meeting the criteria for autism spectrum disorder (ASD).  The recently completed Microbiota Transplant Therapy (MTT) Phase 1 study indicates such results are possible and sustainable.

At the beginning of the study, the majority - 83% of participants - were classified as “severe” on an autism diagnosis scale. At a 2 year follow up, only 17% were still “severe”, and 44% no longer met the criteria for an autism diagnosis. Most participants had significant improvements in core autism symptoms and gastrointestinal problems.

MTT holds great promise as a potential treatment for ASD. The next step towards FDA approval is a larger, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial for adults with ASD. The clinical trial is underway with federal grant funding, but requires an additional $200,000 to complete.  We need your help to move this research forward. Please make your tax deductible donation and share this post.  The first 100 contributions will unlock $15,000 from a private donor!

Donations via GoFundMe are being sent to the Autism Nutrition Research Center (ANRC) because ASU cannot receive funds directly from GoFundMe.  ANRC is a 501©3 non-profit led by Prof. Adams which raises funds for autism research, and pledges that 100% of the funds received from GoFundMe will be sent to ASU to support this research.
Alternatively donations may be given directly to the ASU Foundation via Pitchfunder, which is their version of GoFundMe.  See https://pitchfunder.asufoundation.org/project/15518

Note that after we raise funds to complete the ASD adult study we will launch a similar campaign for another study of MTT for children with ASD.

Sincerely,

Prof. James B. Adams, PhD (autism researcher and autism dad)

Prof. Rosa Krajmalnik-Brown, PhD (microbiome expert)

Quotes from families in our adult treatment study

"Our son's GI issues appear to be entirely gone.  Also, his autism symptoms have noticeably improved in the short time since the end of the treatment.  We expect even greater improvement in the future!  Sure wish we could have done this when he was diagnosed at age 3."

"The most immediate effect of the research and treatment is that my son can eat many more foods without the gastric problems such as gut pain, constipation and then diarrhea.  I have also noticed more communication and expressive language.  I believe over time there may be more improvement in his autistic behaviors."

"My adult son  is now able to have "normal" back and forth conversations with neighbors and extended friends and family. At Christmas he sat with us and chatted with everyone. He previously would have walked back out the door upon our arrival to go walking to relieve anxiety, and would essentially be gone during the entire visit. His transformation continues to be incredible at the 6 month mark! "
