Send Milan to NYC To Get a Suit!
Donation protected
In recognition of Transgender Day of Remembrance/Resilience on November 20th, and the start of Trans Awareness Week, we are proud to be sharing our short documentary “Handsome and Majestic” . In celebration of the release, we are asking for your help to raise funds for Milan to get his very own suit from the renowned tailors Bindle & Keep in New York City, who generously offered to donate a custom suit just for him.
This short doc is a multiple award-winning 12 minute film that has played at over 21 festivals worldwide, from Manitoba to New Zealand, profiling Milan, a 15-year-old trans boy growing up in the northern Canadian city of Prince George, B.C.
When the film premiered in 2016 at Hot Docs Documentary Film Festival in Toronto, it was screened alongside the HBO film “Suited”, a documentary about the tailors at Bindle & Keep, where trans and non-binary folks looking to get a beautiful suit could have one made in a comfortable and supportive space. Rae and Daniel from Bindle & Keep generously offered to make Milan a custom suit, so we are asking for your help tp fulfill Milan’s dream to get a suit and send him to NYC! All funds will go to supporting him and his mom to get from Prince George, BC, to New York to get the suit. Please consider contributing to help out this amazing person who has been a teacher, role model and friend to us and so many people.
Director’s Note: This film was inspired by a speech Milan made to his community during a time in his life so difficult that few of us can really grasp it. It was a fierce statement to his small town - “I am Handsome and Majestic”. When we met Milan and his family, they opened themselves to share things with us that were still incredibly raw, with astonishing bravery. But this then 13-year-old boy was determined. Since then “Handsome and Majestic” has traveled the world through festivals, won multiple Audience Choice awards, and been integrated into school curriculums around Canada. And now it will be released online for greater access. Our hope is that by helping Milan share his story his strength and generosity will be met in equal measure by the community he works to improve. (Let's get this guy a suit!)
