A MIRACLE FOR MEGHAN

Donation protected
February 28th, Meghan went into the hospital with what we thought something minor but it turned out to be a partially collapsed lung.  A chest tube was inserted; she was stabilized and transferred to Newark Beth Israel Hospital, where she had been seeing the transplant team.  She was to begin the process of being listed for bilateral lung transplant as there is a high risk for recurrence of lung collapse.

March 1st, the same lung completely collapsed and she went into cardiac arrest, twice.  CPR was performed; she was resuscitated but suffered a brain injury due to the lack of oxygen to her brain for an extended period time.  She was then transferred to ICU and placed on a ventilator in a comatose state.  She is still in ICU on ventilator support and we are seeing positive signs that she is emerging from coma.

Meghan has Cystic Fibrosis.  She was diagnosed at the age of 2.  This illness is genetic and affects mainly the respiratory and digestive systems.  Over time, recurrent lung infections cause scarring and damage to the lungs.  Through most of her childhood, teen, and adult years she thrived despite the illness’ progressive nature.  She graduated college, went on to receive her masters and married Kenny, a veteran of the United States Army, after he returned from a tour in Iraq.   She is a beautiful, lively, funny young woman that has created so many memories with so many people throughout the years.

She and her husband Kenny are in need of your help.  She has already been in the ICU for almost two weeks, and when she does wake up her recovery will be long.  It is a very difficult time bringing both emotional and financial stress.  I, along with my sisters and family members want to be able to help ease the financial burden so all the focus can be towards her care.  We are all keeping the PMA (positive mental attitude) and continue to ask for prayers as well.  Meghan is a fighter.  Despite being born with the genes that give her CF; those same genes give her exceptional strength.   She will overcome this.
