Missing Mutt Detectives
Donation protected
The Missing Mutt Detectives are a volunteer based group of like-minded animal lovers in Parker, Castle Rock, Aurora, and Highlands Ranch CO, whose primary goal is to humanely rescue/reunite/rehabilitate lost pets with their owners. When an owner cannot be located, our goal is to then place the healthy stray animal into a new, loving, forever home.
Recognizing the limitations animal control has in both, budget and manpower, our group came together with a shared passion to fill this void in our community. Together, we have the ability to spend hours doing the necessary footwork to track an animal, (sometimes for a month or more) and through generous donations from some members of our community, we are slowly acquiring the equipment needed to effectively and humanely trap these missing pets. Since its inception in April, 2015 the MMDs have reunited numerous lost pets with frantic owners, while also educating the public in responsible pet ownership practices, proper training, containment, and what to do in pet emergencies.
Rescued May 5, 2016!!!
Case started March 27 after we received a tip about a Malamute who had been sighted repeatedly in the area. After talking with people around the park/marsh we learned she had been there for at least a month. After 40 long days and nights we finally caught her in a custom built trap! We are grateful to all the amazing neighbors that helped us keep eyes on her!!!
Every member of MMD has a real “soul connection” to our animal friends, and all of us have been working with animals in some capacity most of our lives. Our combined knowledge and experience in animal behaEvior, rescue, training, care, and tracking has proven invaluable to the wonderful people who’ve come to us for help.
Over the last year we have been fortunate enough to be able to purchase many of the supplies needed to get us started in our endeavor. We successfully raised $900. which allowed us to purchase a 42"TruCatch humane trap and a 48F" TruCatch humane trap, slip leads, binoculars, camoflauge tarps and a throw net. We have also had some amazing tangible donations come in from members of our animal loving community as well! We have received crates, kennels, a snappy snare, a catch pole, deer netting, snow fencing and a chip reader! All of these items have made it possible for us to reunite so many animals with the humans who love them! It has been a truly wonderful and humbling experience for all of us.(Murphy - the dog who started it all. 1+ month lost)
The Missing Mutt Detectives are now looking at expanding our capabilities not only in Parker and Castle Rock, but into S.E. Aurora as well. The need is SO GREAT! But as the community’s needs grow, so does our need for more/better equipment! As the detectives spread out, we also find ourselves seriously lacking in field communications, and are looking to purchase radios for when we are actively tracking a pet on the run. We’ve found that trail (wildlife) cameras are invaluable as our “hidden eyes” in the field, and we would like to add 2 of these to our arsenal. A “wishlist” is posted below, and any donations of funds or equipment will be greatly appreciated and put to immediate use.
Our ultimate goal, is to officially become a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, serving our community and surrounding communities for years to come. We can’t do this alone, but with our community supporting us, we know that ANYTHING is possible!
Visit us on Facebook to see more about what we do, and who we're helping right now!
