The Saturday of Memorial weekend 2015 is when Dad made the call Mom was having emergency surgery.  What they thought was the flu turned out to be a perforated colon.  Mom would not be here today if they waited one more day to go to ER.  Later that week it was confirmed to be colon cancer.  Upon returning home to recover is when Mom started Facebook posts with, "A Mona Rae Story ~," and the documentation of her journey to fight this disease began.  In launching a fundraiser to help our Parents with the mounting expenses we found it fitting to share a heartfelt story.

This story was written on 12/23/2015:

A Mona Rae Story ~ Tomorrow will mark 7 months since I started on my cancer journey. When it first smacked me in the face and I heard the Dr. say "I hope we can save your wife" lots of things floated into my mind. I went to the dark place and thought this is the end, as I floated off to sleep the first face I saw was Lilly saying "Love You Nana", Dane "Don't forget your hug and kiss Nana", Mia with her smile, Ella giving a hug". Will I be around to make more memories, will... I be the same Nana for them. OK enough of the dark side, I climbed out and said "Not enough memories made and I will fight". So here I am recovering from the liver surgery, I'm doing pretty good now. At first I slept 30 out of 40 hours for the first 6 days, maybe you could call that beauty sleep! I have my Oxycodone still, only took 2 out of the bottle (that was for the traveling) so I have to dispose of it at my local pharmacy. All of the tape is off and the only discomfort is the midriff jiggles when I walk and I need to hold everything in place. Dr. Reddy has given me the go ahead to have chemo in a few weeks when I internally recover from this surgery. When we met with him this past Monday he took one look at my incision, said Wow and again I got to see his dimples. Oh those dimples are to die for. He is only 38 years old but wise beyond years. He told me that he will continue to be updated on my 6 more treatments of chemo and the final results. He used the word eradicate the cancer, I loved hearing that. Attached are some special pictures that have a story in themselves, hope you can take time to read about my continued journey. So my friends have a very Merry Christmas, I will be having the best one ever celebrating life. Fighting Cancer with Knowledge, Faith and Humor.

We thank you for the prayers, hugs, donations, but mostly the love.  From our family to all of you, Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  God Bless!!
