Saving rainforest on a monkey bike

This coming October, I am heading to Morocco to participate in a sketchy motorcycle race called the Monkey Run. The race involves a bunch of morons driving 1000 kilometers (about 620 miles) across the Sahara desert and over the Atlas Mountains on their way to the finish line along Morocco's western shore. Racers will be spending 7 days riding something called a Monkey Bike - an absurdly small, 49cc "motorcycle" - and figuring out food and accommodations along the way. Teaming up with me on this trip is my old friend Keith Ulrich. While Keith is not a motorcycle rider per se, he brings a lot of logical thinking and survival skills to the table. Together I think we have a decent chance of surviving this completely absurd, nonsensical endeavor. I am using this event as an opportunity to raise money for CoolEarth, a fabulous organization that is incredibly effective at saving our rainforests. $80USD protects roughly one acre of rainforest and each acre stores on average 240 metric tons of carbon. My own carbon footprint for this trip is roughly 5 metric tons, which can be covered by just a few dollars. Imagine what your donation of $50 or $100 could do!
Deforestation is a major cause of climate change – putting more CO2 into the atmosphere than all of the world’s transport combined. Rainforests produce 25% of our oxygen and 1/5 of the worlds fresh water as rainfall. I feel that we can't let the greed and short sighted actions of the few destroy this precious resource for future generations. I hope you will join me in donating to this incredibly effective organization. Not only are they brilliant at saving the rainforests, but they invest in local communities - the custodians of these forests for generations - to provide funding and renewable income to help resist coercive attempts to log their land.
Thank you for your generosity.
