Please help pay for my transportation to the hospital for necessary surgery (and other treatment if needed).
I have been diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism caused by tumours on two of my parathyroid glands, and surgery is the only treatment option. This is a potentially life-threatening condition.
My pre-existing disabilities have become severe enough that I can no longer travel to medical appointments by normal means or by Wheeltrans. I can only travel on a stretcher by ambulance, as I can walk only very short distances (15-20 feet) and I have no access to a wheelchair that could accommodate my weight.
Non-emergency ambulance trips are not covered by provincial health insurance or by my supplemental insurance. And because of my weight, the cost of getting me to the hospital for my surgery and back home afterwards will be at least $800 ($400 each way, for two crews).
I have already been to the hospital once this year, on an emergency basis, for diagnosis and symptomatic treatment for the dangerously high blood calcium levels that are a consequence of my condition. I will need to go in a second time for pre-surgical screening, and a third time for the actual surgery. And a new medical issue has cropped up that will require even more trips (see update). So I am setting the funding goal at $3500. (Any unused donations will be set toward a fund for getting a wheelchair that can accommodate me for future such needs.)
My disability income is fixed and there is no room in the monthly budget to pay that kind of ambulance bill. So I am asking for help from my friends and former colleagues. Please donate what you can.
Thank you.
