MotoAid - Kokoda
Donation protected
Beginning May 15 I will be spending 7 days walking the Kokoda Trail, the location of the 1942 World War II battle between Japanese and Allied (primarily Australian) forces.
The Kokoda Trail is a single-file 96km hike through the Owen Stanley Range located approximately 50km east of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Hot and humid days; torrential rainfall; hills; creek crossings; and 15kgs of equipment in my backpack will make this a challenging hike.
Whilst completing this trail will be a huge personal achievement and be ticking off one of my "bucket list", I will also be walking for a cause.
MotoAid is an Australian based charity that supports the work of health and human development organisations in the Asia Pacific by improving the safety and reliability of the motorbike fleets of health workers.
MotoAid delivers training in safe riding, basic daily mechanical checks and transport management systems. This training is proven to provide positive health outcomes to both health workers and the communities they serve.
MotoAid has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Timor-Leste Red Cross to a implement a train-the-trainer program, with an aim of successfully training 400 health workers by July 2020.
I am seeking to raise funds to conduct the initial training of 20 Red Cross trainers in Timor-Leste. This 3 week intensive training course is estimated to cost approximately $30,000 including flights, accommodation and trainer fees.
While on the trail I suspect that there will be times that I will need a little motivation, if that motivation can come in the form of a donation, MotoAid, myself and the Timor-Leste communities will be very grateful.
Cheers
Clayton.
