Mr. Johnston's Beard-raiser

I am a middle school math teacher. In recent weeks, I have been running a fundraiser for Dream Adaptive Recreation by taking "votes" in the form of donations to determine what ridiculous shape I will be shaving my winter beard into. This Wednesday at a school assembly, the votes will be tallied, I will shave my crazy new beard in front of cheering students and friends

All the money that is raised will be donated to DREAM Adaptive. DREAM Adaptive is a nonprofit organization that provides disabled people experiences they normally wouldn't be able to enjoy, such as skiing, biking, and paddleboarding.

Why did I choose this organization? I have a handicapped older brother who isn't able to enjoy the activities that we are all so fortunate enough to enjoy. His name is Kevin. Kevin can't walk. Kevin can't talk. However I love Kevin just as much as I do any of my other brothers. We have a connection that some other people strive their whole lives to attain.

I am a huge outdoor enthusiast. People who struggle to walk, talk, write, or even think should be able to experience the thrill of life. Kevin should have an opportunity to experience this, just as others should. This is why I support DREAM Adaptive and all that they have to give.

No matter how big or small of a contribution, it will go a long way for such an incredible organization.
