Tonight Christina and I were dog sitting my brother and sister-in-laws dogs as they visit family in Chicago. We thought nothing of it as we rallied up all three dogs to go to the park. While there we threw the tennis balls and the dogs chased after it and came back to us per usual. All of a sudden Christina heard a yelp and Sarge was grabbed up by an Akita whose owner had him on a leash. Christina grabbed the Akita and attempted to get him off of Sarge. Unfortunately, damage was already severe. We rushed him to the hospital and the doctors told us he has about a 50% survival rate. The heartbreak I feel right now is palpable. The heartbreak I feel for my brother and sister-in-law while they are not nearby is out of this world. The costs that we have already accumulated just spending five hours in the hospital is unreal and he has a long road of recovery WHEN he pulls through this. He’s one of the toughest dogs I know and I believe he will make it through the night, but my family needs all the prayers we can get. The thing that makes me so angry is while I was holding pressure on Sarge’s wounds while Christina sprinted for the car, the owner of the Akita said his dog has mauled four other dogs. Prayers that Sarge makes it through the next two days so my brother and sister-in-law can get home and see him. He’s the happiest, go luckiest, loving and cuddly dog I know. I could barely get him out of bed this morning at 10 AM because he just wanted to sleep in :-) I want to see Sarge back to his normal joyful self.
