Buddha's MRI and medical fund
Donation protected
Buddha has been through a lot. In the spring of 2013, he had to have a leg amputated after he escaped the house one evening and someone or something attacked him in the night. We saved him and inspiration was born from the tragedy to start our Purring Buddha business. A year later, he ended back in the ER with urinary blockage. He was saved again but has to remain on a medicated diet. Last summer we started noticing some odd behavior with him but couldn't figure out what was wrong. Earlier this year we realized he definitely has some issues that need to be addressed.
He is particularly needy these days and requires more attention than usual. The only things that seem to comfort him when he isn't feeling well is to just sit and hold him and I've recently started carrying him around in a scarf sling that he seems to like. Today we also took him into Dancing Cats Feline Health Center in Sugarhouse for some acupuncture and reiki. He was a good little sport.
We noticed late last year that sometimes he would pace around in circles but thought he was just doing it when he was stressed or confused. Gradually through 2016 the pacing in circles has increased and he has been to 3 different veterinarians so far. All seem to agree that it is a sign of a brain lesion. There is a possibility that it could be some brain damage from an injury but the only way to know what's going on in his little feline head is to have an MRI done.
A couple weekends ago we realized that he has been having seizures. I started taking notes and keeping a close watch on him and realizing he has a hard time moving his head and neck around which is why he can't seem to groom himself and makes such a big mess when he eats. He is struggling with his coordination and balance. He has good days and bad days. On good days he can scoot himself down the stairs but on bad days he tumbles and we have to keep him away from the stairs. On good days he purrs for us , on bad days he doesn't. We started giving him CBD oil just over a week ago and it seems to be helping. We're also going to start giving him some homeopathics as well and see how he does.
The next step to determine how to treat him is an MRI. I spent an entire day calling clinics all over the SLC area and the cheapest I found is $1,200 with Willow Creek in Sandy. The most expensive was $2,500+. We will be using Willow Creek if we can raise the money. It's possible the MRI might not show anything but the hope is that it can show if it's a brain lesion, tumor or scar tissue from an injury. From there we will know how to proceed with treatment, if surgery is needed or if it's even possible.
This isn't the easiest asking or accepting help as I try to help support animal rescue efforts by donating products for fundraisers and fund contributions when possible. I thought about it and realized I can't let my pride get in the way of Buddha's health as we don't want him to suffer.
Donations can also be made directly to Willow Creek Pet Center under my account for Buddha. (801) [phone redacted].
I've also added a coupon code for 15% off in the Purring Buddha Etsy shop if you prefer to help support the cause by shopping and supporting the business instead. Use code "MRI4BUDDHA" at checkout. www.purringbuddha.com
