Who Are We?
We are Wirral Animal Sanctuary, a team of volunteers from the Wirral and surrounding areas that are dedicated to creating a new Animal Sanctuary on the Wirral. We were founded in 2015 by Stephanie Oliver, and the organisation has snowballed since. We are now a Registered Charity and we are working endlessly to promote our cause.
What's the project?
Caroline has selflessly devoted her life to saving sick and injured hedgehogs for the last 11 years, and has come to the very difficult decision to pass the torch on to someone else. When we heard that our fellow rescuers, Wirral Hedgehog Rescue needed help, we just had to step in.
The team at Wirral Animal Sanctuary knew that this was the right move for us, as it means that we can set about our important work of rescue while saving up for our own premises. The full handover is scheduled for the 1st May 2016, and in the meantime the volunteers will be spending time with Caroline and the hogs learning all about their care, and completing a course in Hedgehog First Aid.
How Will the money be used?
Currently the Hogs are housed in Caroline's back yard. This will not give Caroline the break that she truly deserves! We have the land for the critters, however we need funds to build our Hedgehog House!
25% of the money will go towards Wirral Animal Sanctuary's general running costs to pay for things such as advertising, printing and event fees. The remaining 75% will go towards the new Hog House.
Why Is This Needed?
Hedgehogs have declined in Britain as fast as tigers worldwide. This is down to many factors such as the loss of grasslands, the use of herbicides and pesticides and a reduction in the quality of the Hog Habitat.
Caroline has devoted her life to Wirral Hedgehog Rescue and we cannot bear to see this amazing work no longer continue. Wirral Animal Sanctuary are going to take over the management and the fundraising (with the help of Caroline!) to ensure that Wirral Hedgehog Rescue lives on.
We need the funds ASAP to ensure a swift and stressfree movement for the hedgehogs. Please donate whatever you can, every £ helps towards saving this beautiful species.
